People need to understand why the Mahmoud Khalil arrest is a dangerous slipper slope
To preface, I think Trump is doing a lot of good things for free speech and is truly trying to improve US.
However, he is taking 1 step forward and 3 steps back arresting and potentially removing Mahmoud Khalil for organizing protests.
The main reason Trump's administration stated for removing Mahmoud Khalil is that he is a terrorist organization sympathizer. Why this is such a dangerous precedent?? Because the idea of "terrorist organization" is a moving target. The US had multiple times identify groups as an terrorist organization and later retract the label and sometimes work with the same said organization. I hope you see where this is going
There is zero check and balance for rule party to label a group or organization as "terrorists". So if this precedent and this bullshit excuse is used to arrest Mahmoud Khalil is finalized, we're looking at one of the worse form oppression for freedom of speech.
You don't like what the government is doing r/Asmondgold!? Well, I label this subreddit as a terrorist group. How about your local book club reading about "George Orwell 1984"? Absolutely terrorist club trying to learn about big brothers.
This is a big deal and people need to understand that this is one of the scariest slippery slope a government can go through before absolute tyranny.
I welcome anyone to rebut my points above.
