Worth going past book 6? No spoilers please.

I love this series, and I read up to book 6 before putting it down. I didn't continue at the time because I didn't have the next book, but I'm getting back into it now (I'm at book 2) and I have to know. Does it get better for Laurence and Temeraire past book 6? I've read the book description of book 7 and I know they go to brazil, but I want no spoilers for anything more detailed than that. Thanks.

Laurence's downward spiral has been kinda depressing, and I gotta know if it gets better for them.

At the end of book 6, Laurence has lost his station, his capital, most of his crew, Rankin has another dragon that he'll likely abuse, and the young african boy who chose to care for that misshapen dragon (I forget their names) will likely spend the rest of his career fighting to keep from being separated.

They at least have each other and might set up a nice little sheep herding spot, but they're thoroughly removed from global politics and any military obligation. It's kinda poetically tragic, how Laurence, whose defining character trait at the beginning of the series was his devotion to duty and his country, ended up a traitor and exiled to australia for the love of a dragon. It's a nice end to the story. But is it worth reading on? Or does it stay depressing?
